Friday morning I started the day with chaperoning my daughter's 1st grade class on their field trip to Walden Pumpkin Farm. It was such a beautiful day out! A tad on the warm side for a fall trip but we had fun regardless.
We went on a hayride...
Went through the corn-maze...
Played at the playground...
After that we headed to the race expo for the Nashville Women's 1/2 Marathon
Picked up some on sale goodies there. Needed some more cold weather gear anyways.
And pink calve sleeves(I wore race day and loved them), fuel belt and cheap sunglasses. I actually bought two belts. One is not in the picture but I wore it race day, but because of wearing just a sports bra and no shirt it rubbed my side raw, so I threw it off at mile 8 1/2 where my husband was at the cheer station. Oh and I lost a gel in the side pocket which pissed me off. So I threw that sucker.
And this pace bracelet for someday when I want to go back and try and conquer my 1:45 half pace, yeah not this year.
I really like the color and the fit of the race shirts this year.
And we ended the evening with a trip to the Cheesecake Factory with some friends also racing in the morning. Ella cracked me up with her BIG eyes in this picture.
Then it was off to bed to get a good nights rest before race day.
Finally pinned that extra large race bib on my sports bra.
First race going daring enough to wear just a sports bra! Convinced by my good friend to just do it. And it was a warm race so I was glad in the end.
Got the kids aka Spider-Girl and Captain America ready for the cheer zone
I took some pictures while waiting. Nerves already settling in like every race I do.
I shouldn't have been nervous. I wasn't planning on trying to PR(Personal Record) this year. My goal was to run my goal marathon pace to see where I was at for Chicago Marathon in two weeks. So sub 9's until mile 7-8 and if I felt great I would pick up the pace from there and get negitive splits.
Found my bud Shyla before the start...
It worked out perfect. Whew I forgot how hilly this course could be!!! The hills deffinatly didn't make it easy! And it was humid and warm out that morning, 6am the temp was already like 64". Some of you may think aw not too hot, but I just don't do as well in the heat. I would have preferred it in the 50's to start.
I was super happy to be able to run 8 miles with my friend Shlya! Buddies running side by side :)
I took a gel at mile 4. My plan was mile 5 but I forgot there wouldn't be a water station there so I took it early. Then about a mile later I realized I lost my second gel! I had planned on taking caffinated ones so I was bummed. I ended up grabbing one the race handed out and it was ok. I was having a hard time grabbing water and trying to drink while on the run. I have gotten so used to my awesome handheld pictured below which never causes the gag on water, cough it up problem.
I felt so great otherwise, relaxed, chatting with my friend and running. I couldn't wait to get to mile 8 1/2 where I knew my awesome NRC running group would be, along with my husband and kids! It was even better then I expected!!!!!
My son giving highfives to everyone!
And if you had to need to GO, the porta potties were even in our super hero theme! They left no detail undone...
After I left the cheer station at mile 8 1/2 I felt great and decided to start to pick-up the pace. Nothing like motivation see my family and all the familar faces! I was ready to GO!
Mile 9 pace: 8:21
Mile 10: 8:44
Mile 11: 8:20Mile 12 was my FASTEST(which never happens!) 7:59!Mile 13 still ended strong: 8:15
Pacing myself slow early in the race did give me a strong finish which I loved! I did get a little dizzy around mile 9 and that lasted to the finish, I'm sure it was due to not taking in enough water.
131 place, not bad for not pushing it!
Found my girl SHLYA!!!!
Like long lost buddies reunited! Yeah we were only apart for a few miles but missed each other!
Found my training buddie Lauren!
And then we made our way down to the finsher's area while I waited for Russ and the kids.
And some of my other good friends who raced
And then my family came!
And the end of the day this wasn't my fasted race but that wasn't my goal and I have bigger things on my mind like my "A" race CHICAGO in 2 weeks!!! REPEAT 2 WEEKS! HOLY COW!
While this wasn't my fastest race it was one of my most memorable ones! I had my family there and friends everywhere! And I really just had FUN!
We ended the afternoon with some post race refueling...
